涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱 #1
谷川流, ツガノガク (いとうのいぢ)
the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya #1
by: Nagaru Tanigawa, Gaku Tsugano (with designs by Noizi Ito)
Kadokawa/Yen Press/shounen - $10.99 - Rated 16+
Earth is lame! That’s right, I said Earth and the reality that its citizens have to endure sucks majorly. Knowing that I have decided to live through manga and my life has been one adventure after another since.
High school girl Suzumiya Haruhi is fed up with this planet also. And since she knows that her freedom is fleeting (as high school only lasts for three years), she is desperately seeking good times elsewhere. But where do you turn to when the Roman club and the Yuukan club cannot cut it in the excitement category? You look to the stars, your mind and to the future.
There is a reason why Haruhi has become a huge property and the manga does a fine job showing off some of those reasons. Unfortunately, as this is a media mix title this version is rushed, so whatever character development is tossed out the door to focus on major plot points. Volume one also does not bring anything new to the property. Hopefully there will be chances to expand the world of Haruhi, as I am certain the light novels will next year.
Good but rushed
