Higurashi: the Cotton Drifting Arc #1
by: Houjou Yutori & Ryukishi 09
SquareEnix/Yen Press/seinen - $10.99 - Rated 16+
I have said it before and I will continue to say it until all volumes of this property are available in English…Higuarashi is one of the most innovative properties out there period! I cannot think of another title with so much re-read value. With every new volume and every new arc, additional clues are revealed further expanding the world of When They Cry. And while this arc takes on a very different tone from the first, more of a rom-com than a straight-horror title, the Cotton Drifting Arc is equally as fascinating and shocking!
Reading Ryukishi’s different takes on the same murder mystery, I am not surprised how the property spun-off so many versions from manga to light novels and a strong anime. It also makes me want to heed caution when leaving the big city. As some have said before, best not to mess with tradition. That is even more truthful when young impressionable people are carrying around hand-axes and baseball bats!!
If you aren’t reading Higurashi you are missing out, as this is easily one of the top five titles of the year!
